Sony Xperia sola Announced

Sony Mobile Communications announced a new  Android Phone called Sony Xperia sola, a 3.7 inch device with a “floating touch” display, where user can use gestures to do things like browse the web without touching the display. The new feature allows users to navigate with fingers a few millimetres above the touchscreen.



According to Sony, floating touch display UI will be improved with the addition of new user functionality and applications through software updates and engagement with developers.

Sony Xperia sola is powered by NovaThor U8500 chipset with a dual-core 1GHz processor,512MB of RAM,8GB of built-in storage and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich promised this Summer.

The Sola has a 3.7-inch 854×480 pixel Reality Display screen with mobile BRAVIA technology and scratch-resistant glass,as well as 3D surround sound, access to the Sony Entertainment Network and pre-installed Video and Music Unlimited apps.


The device also has a 5 megapixel HD rear camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording and and 2D/3D sweep panorama stills. Sony claims that the device can go from sleep mode to snap in less than a second.

The Xperia sola also has NFC connectivity features and NFC SmartTags tech, the device will be available with two pre-loaded Smart Tags. Tags can be customized with up to 10 commands to be executed when you press your smartphone against them.

The 9.9mm-thick Sony Xperia Sola weighs 107 grams, and will be available in black, white and red colours.There’s also WiFi, Bluetooth, aGPS, DLNA and USB tethering support, along with an FM radio with RDS and a 3.5mm headphone socket.

Battery life is up to 6hrs talktime or 475hrs standby, or alternatively up to 40hrs music playback or 6hrs video playback.

Simplify the everyday with SmartTags

Xperia sola is NFC enabled and comes with two NFC Xperia SmartTags in the box as standard to simplify consumers’ everyday smartphone experiences. By touching an NFC Android smartphone on a SmartTag, a pre-configured profile in the smartphone will launch. The two SmartTags included with Xperia sola can be personalized with up to 10 commands. Out of the box they are ready for the living room to turn on Wi-Fi™ and launches Google™ news and weather apps, or for the bedroom, which turns on the alarm and switches to silent mode. Xperia sola supports NFC pairing, allowing consumers to enjoy great connectivity with other NFC smartphones, applications and services by tapping their smartphones together.
