Windows Defender is now available as an extension for Google Chrome browser.
This extension from Microsoft is designed to protect you against phishing sites and other online threats.
Google Chrome already has security protections against Phishing and malicious sites. This Microsoft extension adds an extra layer of security for your Chrome browser.
This extension uses the same Windows Defender database used in Microsoft Edge browser, the database includes known malicious links which are constantly updated by Microsoft.
When you visit a website, the extension will check the database and see if it’s a malicious site, if the webpage is malicious it will display a big red warning screen and blocks the harmful webpage.
According to Microsoft, Windows Defender provides 99% protection against phishing attacks when compared to Chrome (87%) and Firefox ( 70%). I think this is a pure advertising from Microsoft against Chrome.
Overall, Windows Defender for Chrome is free to download extension that acts as an extra layer of protection that safeguards your PCs against suspicious and malicious sites.
This Microsoft extension is available for all Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome, Opera, and Vivaldi.
