Using the Pixel8 or Seagate file recovery software is very easy. It has a simple and user-friendly interface. The main window of the program is categorized into three sections :
- Test a device
- Recover lost files
- Erase data
Test a device section lets you know the hard disk or storage drive health status with the help of the S.M.A.R.T. monitoring system. The section offers two types of scans Quick (takes 2 mins) and Extended (takes more than 2 hours).
The Recover lost files section provides options or different types of scanning methods to recover data from your hard disk, flash drives, and other storage devices.
This section offers 3 types of scan: Simple, Advanced and Smart.
The Simple Scan performs a quick scan of your device or volume for recently deleted files or emptied recycle bin. This is suited for internal OS/system devices. If no files are found with the Simple scan, you can run an advanced scan.
The Advanced scan performs a deep scan across the entire device or volume. This is suited for internal or external devices that have a corrupted Master Boot Record (MBR), a lost partition/ volume that has been accidentally formatted. Test time will depend on the device’s capacity and could take up to several hours.
The Advanced scan may yield a higher success of recovering files.
The Smart Scan performs a scan across the user data in the device first. This is suited for internal OS/system or backup external devices that have not been refurbished or overwritten several times and is heavily fragmented.
The smart scan automatically determines if your device is not suitable for this scan and will run the Advanced scan instead. Test time will vary by scenario although the Smart scan will be significantly shorter than the advanced scan.
Coming to the third category “Erase data”, it provides two methods.
The first method “Volume or device” lets you permanently erase a volume or an entire device.
The second method “Folders and Files” lets you permanently erase specific folders and files within a volume.
