PirateBrowser: Avoid Government Censorship

Posted by

The Pirate Bay (thepiratebay. sx), the popular torrents indexing site launched PirateBrowser  to celebrate their 10th anniversary. PirateBrowser is actually  a Pre-configured Firefox browser packed with FoxyProxy add-on and uses  Tor client for tunneling traffic. Also the browser  arrives with some configurations to allow  access to blocked websites.

PirateBrowser is intended to  avoid or bypass Government Censorship on  Internet content in certain countries such as Iran, North Korea, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Italy and Ireland.

So if you are unable to access thepiratebay. sx or other torrent sites on your normal web-browser or the pirate bay is blocked in your country, just switch to this browser to access them. Further the browser is  free of adware, spyware, toolbars and other such annoying things.

I have to mention that,   although Tor service offers anonymous surfing, but  PirateBrowser service only provides access  to blocked internet content and doesn’t offer any anonymity. This browser is intended just to circumvent censorship — to remove limits on accessing websites your government doesn’t want you to know about.

If you don’t know about Tor  or  The Onion Router, it’s  a famous browser that offers  anonymous surfing and provides security by  resisting traffic analysis and prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location.  Tor  network actually runs on the bandwidth donated by volunteers and organizations, the service direct users internet traffic  through  their worldwide volunteer network consisting of more than three thousand relays.

Coming  back to the topic PirateBrowser, at present it’s available only for windows systems and we may expect it on  OS X and Linux as the browser is based on Firefox and we  know it is a  cross-platform-friendly browser.

So windows users can download PirateBrowser and use it as a normal browser, on launching the browser you can find that  The Pirate Bay (TPB)  is set as a homepage and the browser is pre-loaded bookmarks for popular blocked sites such as EZTV, KickassTorrents, Bitsnoop and H33T. Also the browser listed the alternative .onion addresses for both  TPB and EZTV as backups to access these sites.

How to use PirateBrowser?

1. First, download the Self  extracting 7-zip archive file of PirateBrowser, extract it.

2. Next in the extracted folder, click “Start PirateBrowser.exe” and you can see the Vidalia control panel of  Tor network.
