Redmond company, Microsoft made its note taking tool ‘OneNote’ free for all, OneNote is now free on both Windows and Mac.So, on releasing a free version of its note-taking software, Microsoft tries to compete with Evernote, a number one note-taking app cross all platforms.
Right now, you can download Microsoft OneNote 15.0 or OneNote 2013 to your windows system and as much time as you want, you can launch it right from your desktop without any cost, it works on latest OS Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7. Furthermore, OneNote supports the modern (tile-based) UI of Windows 8 operating system.
Also, for the first time Microsoft released its note taking tool for Mac systems, its available on Mac App Store with a free license and supports almost 15 languages, including Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Swedish and Spanish. The installer for Mac is around 235 MB and supports OS X 10.9 or greater.
Actually, OneNote for Mac is a cut-down version when compared to fully featured Windows version, but the Mac version still has key functionality, including organizing and creating notes into pages, notebooks and sections.Using the to-do tag, users can easily create lists and over 20 tags are available, and notes can consist of images, text and other elements placed individually on the page.
Also on Monday, Microsoft released a browser add-on or bookmarklet to grab Web content and copy it in OneNote for saving it as notes, and also added a Windows Phone-only app ‘ Office Lens’, which captures documents snapped with the smartphone’s camera.
Previously ,Windows 7 users has to buy Microsoft Office to use OneNote, but now its available as free to use. However the free version for Windows systems doesn’t include all the premium features, it lacks Outlook integration and SharePoint support .For these features users need to get a license, I think this free version is a basic one that tries to convince users to switch from Evernote to OneNote.
