Google on Wednesday at Google I/O conference officially announced their very own “Nexus” tablet device called “Google Nexus 7”, despite many leaks of supposed device, the company hasn’t confirmed until at theGoogle I/O Developer Conference in San Francisco.

Nexus 7 is built by Asus and has impressively low price, $199 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version, and ships in mid-July.Google Nexus 7 features a 7″ IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip with 1GB of RAM and 12 core ultra-low voltage nVidia GeForce GPU.


This tablet is the first device to run on Android 4.1 (JellyBean) and comes with front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera,microphone,Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity and Google Wallet preinstalled.It also has a micro USB port, GPS, near-field communication, but there’s no mention of an SD card slot for expanding the memory.Of course it has gyroscope, accelerometer, 9 hrs of battery life, and weighs 350 grams.

Measuring 7.8″ x 4.7″ x 0.41″, and weighing 12 ounces, the Nexus 7 is about the same size as a Kindle Fire or NOOK Tablet. It’s also about the same price, but it has a faster processor, a built-in camera, and Google Certification.Also Google giving new customers $25 to spend in the Play Store, plus a free copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, plus a free book and some free magazine issues.

“Nexus” devices are designed by Google in conjunction with a single hardware maker, and are meant to showcase the latest version of Android. The Nexus 7, built by Asus and running Android 4.1, is the first tablet to earn this distinction. With a price starting at $200, it looks like a competitor to Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
