On July 8th, Indian consumer electronics company “Micromax” launched the much-hyped Android Smartphone Canvas 4 A210, the Successor of Micromax Canvas HD.

The launch price of Canvas 4 is around RS 18,000 and the Smartphone is available for sale on the company’s online store, whereas the device will be available in major retail stores for this weekend. Also Micromax said that it has already received 11,500 Pre-orders and these pre-orders will be shipped starting today after confirmation.

Look wise there is nothing to say (several Android Smartphones has adopted this type look, so nothing special), but the build quality of Canavas 4 is good and the device is designed well compared to previous Micromax phones. The phone arrives with aluminum ring around the plastic front and back.

The Canvas 4 is 8.99mm thick, encased in a sleek aluminum body which significantly amplifies signal reception. The top part of the housing is used for GPS, WI-Fi and BT Antenna, while the bottom part of the housing is used for GSM and WCDMA.

1. Processor :
If you look for hardware, the phone has decent Specifications. The Canvas 4 arrives with 1.2GHz MediaTek ARM Cortex A7 quad-core processor with PowerVR Series 5XT GPU, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, out of  which 12.48GB is user-accessible.

2. Display:

The phone has a 5-inch (12.7 CMs) IPS LCD Screen with Corning Gorilla Glass screen at a display resolution of 1280*720. The touch screen even works with gloves or under sweat/water condition. The screen offers clear visual experience and you can view high definition content from any angle without any color shift.

At the bottom of the front panel , the device has three capacitive keys for home, settings and back functions given and at the top of the front there is a 5MP camera .

3. Camera :

The Phone has 13-megapixel rear camera with auto focus, flash light and a Sony stacked image sensor for image stabilization. Like iPhone 5 the rear camera has 5-element lens, with this you can Capture every moment using Continuous Shots. You can take up to 99 captures with one touch in burst mode.

You can also capture a horizontal and vertical panorama with the Canvas 4. It also has built-in Anti-Shake technology to prevent blurry pictures & videos. The device supports HD 1080p recording and playback, you can record HD videos at 30 FPS.

There is a 5MP Front facing camera lets you video chat, however video chatting in this phone may claim high Bandwidth, but it’s useful to take a quality picture of your face.

4. Software:
The Canvas 4 comes loaded Android Jellybean 4.2.1 OS and the company say’s that all the firmware updates for the phone will be sent over the air directly to your phone via FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).

There are some weird gesture based software customizations, like unlocking the phone by blowing air on the screen or shaking the phone. There is a ” Flip to mute “ feature, which lets you put an incoming call on silent simply by flipping the Canvas 4 over and keeping it down.

Also you can answer any incoming call by holding the phone close to your ear and video pinning feature  lets you pin the videos to the home screen, and watch thumbnails of multiple videos at one time.

Video pinning is introduced  Samsung Galaxy S3 is now Micromax adopted this feature for the new device.There is a ‘look away’ feature which was actually introduced  in Samsung Galaxy S4. While watching the video if someone calls you and you look away from the screen, it will automatically pause and will resume when you look back. You can also preview another video whilst watching a video.

If you look for pre-loaded software, the Canvas 4 comes pre-loaded with Music Hub, M!Security, Fone Clay, Spuul, Hike Messaging, Opera Mini, M!Live and Kingsoft Office Suite.

Music Hub lets you to access and easily manage all your music from one location, whereas fine clay app gives you access to multiple themes for your phone.

Hike Messenger, integrates all your messaging requirements into one. You can send free unlimited messages to other Hike users and directly SMS those without Hike. Spuul app lets you to select and watch your favorites from a huge collection of the latest blockbuster movies and popular TV shows. Get access to premium content for one month with the Canvas 4.

5. Battery, Sensors and other features:

Like most Micromax phones, Canvas 4 is also a dual-SIM Smartphone with dual-standby support, for memory expansion there is a MicroSD card slot that supports up-to 32GB.Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Micro-USB.

The device has a 2,000 mAh battery, according to the company the full-charge battery will be sufficient for two days of normal 2G usage (?), the standby time is 220 hrs. Regarding sensors, there is Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor and G-Sensor.

Finally the device will be shipped with free Aluminum Flip cover (available in white and gray colors), worth Rs. 2999.

Final Word:

It seems Micromax Canvas 4 is nothing but a re-branded version of Chinese  BLU Life One (check out GSM arena)  phone with added Indian oriented apps and the price tag  18K  is high  when  you look the specs and compare the after-purchase support from the company with  Samsung and Sony.

Further I suggest you to opt for its predecessor Micromax Canvas HD A116 which has similar features and priced at RS 13K.
