Honkai Impact 3rd is a free-to-play 3D action role-playing game that is available for Windows, Android, and iOS devices.
This next-generation 3D cel-shaded anime action game is like a spiritual sequel to Houkai Gakuen 2. It has many of the same characters, but the story is different. The game is known for having a lot of different types of gameplay, including hack-and-slash, social simulation, bullet hell, platforming, shoot-em-up, and dungeon crawling, in both single-player and multiplayer modes. It uses gacha mechanics.
The game takes place on a different version of Earth, which is full of disasters caused by “Honkai” (in Chinese, translates as “Chaos”, while in Japanese, it is said “Houkai”). Honkai is mostly seen as a bad force with its own will. It can turn humans into undead creatures, take the form of different monsters, and choose certain people, called “Herrschers,” to give them god-like powers that can cause the end of the world. The Honkai is a cyclical event that comes back to end civilization on Earth when it gets too advanced. The last time this happened was 50,000 years before the start of the game when the 14th Herrscher beat humanity.
In the present day, there are many groups around the world that want to fight or take advantage of the power of Honkai. These include “Schicksal,” a peacekeeping group based in Europe that uses human soldiers called “Valkyries” to fight the Honkai; “Anti-Entropy,” which used to be Schicksal’s North American branch but stopped using human soldiers in favor of robots; and “World Serpent,” a shadow group that has been manipulating events since the end of the last era.
