Last month I reported about Firefox 4 Beta 2 relased, yesterday Mozilla pushed another update “Firefox 4 Beta 4 “, which is available for download in over 30 languages for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.
The beta version brings several new features, the highlight & best feature is Firefox 4 Beta 4 supports “Direct2D acceleration” on Windows platforms.
Other two noted Features are: Panorama tabs (previously known as Tab Candy) and Firefox Sync, that synchronizeyour bookmarks, history, form-fill data and open tabs accessible across multiple computers and mobile devices.
I don’t know, but hardware-accelerated graphics feature “Direct2D ” is turned off by default. However enabling this feature is very easy.
How To turn on Direct2D ?
- First Type about:config in the firefox address bar
- Enter gfx.font in the ‘Filter’ box and Double-click on gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to set it to true.
- Below this, right click and select New > Integer to add a pref setting
- Enter mozilla.widget.render-mode for the preference name, 6 for the value
(you will get warning message, ignore it)
It seems there will be another beta release, before the release of the final version. To know more about the features of Firefox 4 Beta 4, check out Mozilla blog.
