FileSonic, one of the famous file-sharing site has killed its sharing service and disabled all file downloads.FileSonic is a popular file locker service that allows users to upload files and share them with other users.

If you visit filesonic homepage, you will be greeted by a message that reads: “All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.”

This sudden move from FileSonic seems to be preventive measure in reaction to the recent Megaupload taken down by the U.S. in cooperation with authorities from eight other countries by over 20 warrants.

MegaUpload, one of the world’s largest file-sharing sites, was shut down on Friday morning and several people including the founder, have been charged with violating piracy laws. The site has been accused of costing copyright holders over $500 million in lost revenue from pirated music and other content.

FileSonic is among the top ten file-sharing sites on the internet, serving up a quarter-billion page views every month.According to Compete the site gets about 1.9 million visitors from the United States and has Alexa global rank of 167.

So FBI catching big fish “Megaupload” has created scare in other file-sharing sites and in response FileSonic decided to voluntarily drop its sharing services. According to users on Reddit, it is believed that many accounts and files were deleted today and it has Closed affiliate (rewards)program.
