DxO FilmPack is a film simulation software, that brings look and feel of traditional film photos to your digital images.
The software can simulate up to 60 film types including Kodachrome, Fuji Reala, Tri-X, Velvia, and others.
In addition, you can adjust contrast, saturation, and toning based on several preset, and adjust the intensity of digitally simulated film grain effects based on popular film brands.
DxO FilmPack faithfully renders the colors, saturation, contrast, and grain of analog photography on your digital photos based on a proprietary calibration method.
Film Pack 5 can be used as either a standalone product or plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or similar, plug-in enabled software.
This software simulates the color and grain of some of the most popular emulsions ever produced. Some favorites include Fuji Velvia and Kodak Kodachrome 64.
The essential edition of DxO Film Pack 5 Essential Edition sells for $ 79, this is a very reasonable price, considering the flexibility and quality that this product offers.Price is one of its key features, but the program boasts a number of great capabilities that make it stand out.
1. Easy to Use
DxO features a basic window where all the settings can be customized and altered according to the specific needs of the user, who can open a preview window and have a 100% view or a zoom to fit view.
The interface of the program is quite easy, allowing the non-savvy user to navigate and learn it relatively easily. The main settings are all grouped in four main tabs at the right hand lower screen.
2. Tweakable Settings
The greatest advantage of the DxO when used with other programs is that all settings are tweakable; that means that if you prefer the colors provided in the Film Pack, but you do not like the grain, you can still use the color you like but choose another grain from another emulsion.
There are 28 emulsions in DxO, including the most popular and commonly used films, such as Kodak, Fuji and more.
3.The software can work in three ways.
- At its most basic, there is a stand-alone application which allows you to open a JPEG file and apply the various film effects. This offers all the film effects and emulation options but is limited to working with JPEG source images.
- As a Photoshop plugin, where the open (RGB) image is filtered, much as you would with any other image plugin. All the effects are available.
- An add-on module for DxO Optics Pro, extending preëxisting capabilities, but working fully integrated into the normal DxO Optics Pro functionality.
