Check USB Drive errors with H2testw

H2testw is a very small (400 kB) & simple freeware utility , which will test your USB drive for various kinds of errors. H2testw can also be used  to test  other storage medias, like memory cards, internal and external hard drives and even network volumes. It also allows you to spot Fake or Counterfeit USB Flash Drives.

How to  test any USB Drive with H2testw?

Using H2testw is very easy(no Installation) , just download Hztestw zip file from here, extract and run H2testw.exe file. Now select target source (USB Path), and click Write + Verify button.

Now H2testw writes files to the chosen USB drive and names them 1.h2w, 2.h2w, 3.h2w and so on. Once the verification is done it will display Completion Process window. After it is done it will leaves its test files on the USB drive, so you have to manually delete those files (eg: 1.h2w ..e.t.c).

How to Detect Fake USB Flash Drives ?

So you bought a cheap Flash drive (32 GB or 64 GB) from ebay or some where and you want to check whether it is genuine or not. If you  follow the above test procedure with your Drive and on completion of testing if you see “Test finished without errors,” dialog as shown in above image, then your drive has correct capacity or genuine drive.

Otherwise if you see something like “The media is likely to be defective”,so most likely it will be a fake drive, that was reprogrammed to display false capacity.
