Edison: Saves PC energy and money

If you are hoping to reduce your Home or office electric bill?,then you must consider Verdiem’s “Edison”,a free program that will help you to manage your PC’s power settings and shows your estimated annual savings for every tweak you make.

Edison is an easy to use app , once downloaded it lets you know how much energy you are using on your PC. It is absolutely free and only requires email activation  during Installation..

Edison comes with the ability to set different functions for non-working and working PC usage hours. For example, during non-working hours, Edison can be set to put a PC in power save mode for 15 minutes before suspending the computer entirely. Once you set your different preferences, Edison will provide you with an estimate of your energy, CO2 and money savings.

I’ve had it installed for about two weeks now and it has been unobtrusive, stable and hasn’t caused me any problems. It sits in your system tray so it’s quick ,the interface is simple with a sliding scale allowing you to save more or less energy, and to schedule different power management policies for work and non-work time . You can customize those options if the sliding scale presets don’t suit you.

The financial savings are calculated on an electricity cost that you can enter, When I looked at how these are calculated, it’s really all based on averages – apparently the US EPA have produced a report showing that enabling power management on a computer can save 561kWh per year, which equates to $58  or about 765.84 pounds of CO2.

This free software is worth if your computer doesn’t have built-in power management software or it’s not user-friendly enough to enable you to manage your PC’s power consumption effectively
