I think by this time everyone would have known that DOT(Department of telecom) & Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has issued directives to mobile operators to block services for invalid IMEI or fake IMEI handsets allover the country from December 1 2009.
In India 99% of the Unbranded (China or Taiwan) mobile handsets are embedded with false or fake IMEI numbers, so if you are using Chinese mobiles then it’s time to get a genuine IMEI number.
What is IMEI number?
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 15 to17-digit code that comes embedded with every mobile handset and is used to identify the handset on the operator’s network. In other words IMEI is like a vehicle registration number.
This IMEI number is provided by the Global Systems for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), which is activated and updated every 15 days in the Equipment Identity Register of mobile operators’ networks.
After 26/11 terror attacks TRAI or DOT (what ever ) has woken up from deep sleep and issued security directives to mobile operators to prevent anti-social elements which will misuse fake IMEI handsets.
