Box,the Cloud-based storage company today updated their Android app by introducing new collaboration features, new interface to support Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich devices and announced a limited time period offer that provides 50GB of free cloud storage for new and existing Box Personal users who log in from any Android phone or tablet. This special offer is only available for the next 30 days.
For this update to its Android app , Box worked directly with Google to make its app interface look more like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition to making the application and service compatible with Android 4 devices, Box also added a number of new features . It offers new collaboration tools that allow users to share folders and add comments, as well as several new languages .
Box for Android New Features :
- Invite people to your folders:
- View and add comments to files:
- Upload multiple files and monitor progress:
- New Languages :
Quickly share content with another Box user by inviting them as a collaborator to a folder, right from your device. Collaborators can view and contribute content to folders you share with them, plus they get updates when anything changes.
You can now view full threads on files and add your own messages from anywhere.
Now you can upload files in the background and also multiple-file uploading from the SD card is added.
Box for Android is now available in French, Italian, German and Spanish – with more languages on the way.
Box already supports Apple’s iPad and iPhone devices, Research in Motion’s PlayBook tablet and allows file sharing with desktops. So you can use this 50 GB cloud storage on all your devices, also Box supports older versions of Android (1.6+).
“What’s great is that Box is not a super intensive application,” Box VP of Platform Matthew Self told VentureBeat. “The experience is fairly consistent across all Android devices.
How to get 50 GB online storage from Box for Free :
1. Visit the Android Marketplace and download Box for Android
2. Log into your account or register for a new one directly from the app
3.This promotion ends on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:59pm PST
In addition to getting a storage bump, your file upload limit will jump, too; you’ll be able to upload files up to 100MB – like photos, presentations and documents – in your Box account for easy, quick access from anywhere. And remember, you can use your 50GB from any device – whether it’s a laptop, desktop, phone or tablet.
My View :
Although 50 GB free storage is a good offer, but Box doesn’t sync files (unless you pay) like Dropbox, a similar cloud storage service that offers syncing service for free, where it will automatically back your local files online.
Also the upload limit in box is 100 MB per file. Users can upgrade to a 1 GB file size limit for $10 per month. But in Dropbox you can upload files of virtually any size, it’s only limited by the size of your Dropbox storage which is 2GB in the case of free accounts. However you can easily get 10GB+ of unrestricted storage for free with Dropbox by referring others.
Yes 50 GB of free storage from Box is unavoidable offer, but I think they should increase upload size limit to at least 2GB for free users. So my suggestion is don’t abandon dropbox by seeing this big number .
