Just now I reported about Tata DOCOMO announcement about their 3G services Launch by Diwali. However there is no official announcement from Airtel<, but it launched a Website dedicated for Airtel 3G services.

Currently there two types of 3G Mobiles available:

1.WCDMA
2.HSPA

WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) allows data connections up to 384 kbps per user (64kbps, 128kbps, 384 kbps) in good coverage and quality conditions.Where as HSPA allows data connections up to 21 Mbps per user in good coverage and quality conditions.

But previous 3G phones are WCDMA type, it seems Airtel recommends HSPA based 3G phones, don’t worry all latest 3G phones are HSPA based. Also you can check whether your mobile is 3G compatible or not over here.
